Exploiting AI quality control for the optimization of injection molding process

 

Automatic in-line quality control is essential for the optimization of injection molding, regarding the efficiency of the process and the quality of the produced parts.  A fully automated injection molding closed loop has been developed by a group of researchers (Aminabadi, et al., 2022) for the optimization of Injection molding for the fabrication of specific plastic parts. For the optimization of the entire injection molding process, three crucial aspects were taken into account, comprising of part weight, dimensions and surface quality.

A series of experiments were conducted in order to train eight artificial intelligence nodes. Afterwards, the generated models have been applied with controller to control the quality aspect the injection molding process. Through this study, the researchers achieved to control the injection molding process parameters in a manner that good surface quality and dimensional accuracy obtained.
